New York

We headed back to the U.S. for the weekend and settled in the town of Wolcott, NY. Pretty little town with a lot of really old buildings.

People around here grow apples.

There was a huge Motts plant on the road coming into the area. The campground, Cherry Grove RV Park, was nice enough with lots of seasonal RVers who have their own sites with decks and popups.

We found out that they leave their rigs all year, just winterize them, similar to what our snowbirds do to their rigs in the desert during the summer months. I don't know which weather would be more brutal on an RV.

The border crossing back into the U.S. was better than the one in Niagara Falls in that they had better signage for where RVs were supposed to be and the lanes were wider.

This time they didn't ask us about wine or alcohol, just food. When we mentioned we bought some cherries they perked up. Wanted to know how many.  Perhaps the naming of our campground was a clue that they also grow cherries in this area. The border patrol didn't confiscate any fruit since we only had a few. Also didn't ask about the dogs.

While visiting this area we drove to Chimney Bluffs State Park for a look at Lake Ontario from the states side and walk the dogs.

It is quite a walk through the woods to get to the actual bluffs and at one point I just let Bruce go on as it was getting pretty steep and close to the edge.

The lake was really choppy because it was windy and reminded me of ocean waves a little. Beach was rocky. We visited Thorpe Winery near the park and bought a couple of bottles. The lady working there used to live in California...in the Bay Area...small world! The owner of the winery, tho, is a woman from Tokyo, Japan who knew nothing about wine making before she bought it in 1988. She has done well and the winery is in a very lovely spot near Lake Ontario. They say the vineyard just goes dormant in winter. I'm sure it makes a difference in their wines.

We stayed at Cherry Grove for 3 nights, did some laundry, and tried out one of the local restaurants. We had never had Haddock before so we tried it. It won't be my favorite fish..at least not the way they cooked it.

Here are some interesting signs we've seen on this trip.

We could use lots of these in California :-)

Only seen these in Grass Valley before this sign in Michigan.

Guess they use these a lot up here. Do they drive themselves?

What do you think? Rough road! Seriously!

I think it's only slippery when snow falls :-)

That's per litre!

Say that 3 times!

Sounds fast...only 62 mph tho.

This was just bizarre.

They take speeding seriously in Canada.

This carriage has a top.

This snowmobile has a driver.

Babbling Brook RV Park near Malone, NY is on the Salmon River so it's not really a brook. It sounds nice, tho. And is really pretty.

The park is for sale but you have to remember this is upstate New York almost to Canada so there will be snow. It's only open from May to sometime in October so the rest of the time you could spend in Florida or California.

There's not a lot to do here. The closest town is 7 miles away, but it is pretty. And, unlike California right now, it's green. The humidity hasn't been bad and the bugs even less. Maybe we got lucky.

More news later. We head to Montreal tomorrow. BTW if you click on any picture you can see it bigger.
